Pencaerau primary School in Cardiff is set to embark on their second year of the Lead Creative Schools scheme. The school has selected one year 4 class to engage with the enquiry led journey. The school welcomes a number of art forms to apply that give the children a wonderful enriching creative opportunity. There is a particular focus on it being a very practical and outdoors led enquiry, as this would suit the make up of the class. the school boast large spaces on the playground for development ideas led by the children. It may lend itself to a more DT focus, but are open.
Our working Enquiry question is, 'How can a creative approach to "Biophilia" encourage our year 4 to regulate and boost collaboration skills.'
The school want to develop the children's persistence and collaboration skills throughout the enquiry journey. Also it's desired that the creative journey help leaners develop greater imaginative, collaborative and inquisitive habits of mind.
The school wants to explore the outdoor spaces on the school grounds whereby the enquiry could take a number of angles to engage learners that will give them a relevant and authentic learning experience.
The staff desire that the project particularly help develop the following.
Year 4 children have said they want the creative practitioner to be inspiring, funny, kind, encouraging and passionate. The staff also feel these qualities are essential as well as being nurturing and supportive.
Overall the creative practitioner will provide teachers with a rich, practice-based professional development opportunity, through direct engagement with them and their learners. You will support teachers on their own creative journey and how that can be carried on beyond the enquiry journey.
We welcome all ideas and proposals to help us work creatively together.
