Each year we run a secondary schools composition project where we work with three Secondary schools in Cardiff. Participants take inspiration from one of the International Concert Series programme and work with a local composers to create their own composition. All three schools composition work is pulled together by the lead composers where the pupils involved will then attend a rehearsal day at St David's Hall where they will learn the music they have created ready to perform that evening before the main audotorium concert. The ICS Schools project will offer pupils an unforgettable set of experiences working alongside professional composers and musicians to create and devise a composition. With each and every pupil involved having the chance create new musical ideas, they will create and develop their work. Not only will pupils have the opportunity to perform their piece live before the main orchestral concert, they will also receive FREE tickets to go in and watch the piece of music they have taken inspiration from performed live by the orchestra.
This project works on developing composition, arranging and performance skills as well as team work and solo work.
We provide the tutor, professional musicians, orchestral instrumental hire, and scores. Schools are asked to provide a practical space for tutors to work with the group. Pupils are required to have instruments with them or access to instruments during workshops.
This project has a fee of £150. This includes 3 in school workshops with composition tutors and professional musicians, 1 full rehearsal day and composers, conductors and professional musicians, hire of orchestral instruments required EG: Vibraphone, Marimba, Drum Kit, etc. Free tickets to the orchestral concert for all particpants and their parents and teachers.
The main rehearsal and performance day is at St David's Hall however all workshops are based within the school classroom.
