St Mary's is a one form entry Church in Wales school, situated in the Blaenau Gwent town of Brynmawr. The school has strong links to the community, with an established intergenerational scheme running throughout the year. There is a wonderful support network surrounding the pupils in the form of both teachers and parents. The school aims to create a happy, learning environment where all children grow in self esteem and develop the confidence to express themselves clearly.
St Mary's are about to embark on their first year of the Lead Creative Schools journey and have selected their Year 4 class to participate in the project. Year 4 are a group of empathetic, enthusiastic and kind learners who are extremely excited to grow their creativity over the next few months. The focus question for this project is as follows...
'Using drama techniques, can we create scripts and produce films, whilst raising reading standards across a Year 4 class?'
We are hoping that a drama practitioner can help inspire script writing through devising exciting characters & plots, whilst developing performance skills. We would also like to work with a film maker who can help us record our scripts in a creative way, whilst developing our digital and technology skills.
Year 4 would like their practitioners to be encouraging, positive, energetic, happy and active.
