Arts Active - Deputy Community and Learning Partnerships Manager - St David's Hall at St David's Hall

We offer school groups the opportunity to come to St David's Hall and enjoy a completely hands on active music workshop learning how to play the Javanese gamelan. Pupils will explore music making with the use of the gamelan focusing on developing their rhythmic, melodic, structure and listening skills.

Learning Goals

These workshops are supported by a work pack for schools within which it addresses the current requirements of the National Curriculum for KS3: Music Orders (2008), Skills Framework (2008), Literacy and Numeracy Framework (2013) and the Digital Competency Framework (2016), and also aims to make broad connections with the recommendations for the new curriculum recommended by Donaldson (2015). It also has links for how to adapt for Keystages 2 and 4.

Resources

These workshops are supported by a work pack for schools within which it addresses the current requirements of the National Curriculum for KS3 with ideas for how to adapt for Keystages 2 and 4. All tutors are fully DBS checked and all workshops have full health and safety assessments which can be provided upon request.

Financial Information

This opportunity has different packages available with a fee. £95 - Try Gamelan - Year 4 – 12 – This session is available for up to 20 pupils and will last up to 2 hours. £120 - Try Gamelan Boosted - Year 4 – 6 – This session can be offered for up to 30 pupils and will last up to 2 hours. £120 - Try Gamelan Boosted - Year 2 & 3 – This Session can be offered for up to 30 pupils and will last up to 2 hours. £95 - Exploring Gamelan - A-Level/University – This is the same as a STANDARD TASTER but can be taken further by learning a more complicated piece. You can apply to Arts Council Wales for a Creative Learning Fund contribution to cover the costs of the workshop and/or travel.
